ASAP II for Critical Infrastructure Protection

Automated Chemical, Biological and Nuclear Threat Identification

Pad mount ASAP II System in subway stationUrban infrastructures worldwide are coming under increasing threat from vandals, gangs, and recently, terrorists. The ASAP II/ Critical Infrastructure Protection is a modular, multi-sensor surveillance system designed for subways and other high-value/high-risk areas. Sensor modules are available that can detect a wide range of threats, from the presence of nuclear, biologicaland chemical agents, to smoke and fire.

ASAP II/CIP systems may be configured to uniquely match your particular concerns and budget. A nodal approach is used that allows local or remote monitoring of a single suite of detectors or the monitoring of a number of nodes in different locations. Information from the individual nodes can flow to a central PC-based monitoring system via secure optical fiber, cell phone, Internet, Bluetooth, or other appropriate data linking technology. Research International can supply the following monitoring capabilities:

  • NBC threats
  • Explosives
  • Smoke and fire
  • Video and sound
  • Intrusion
  • Thermal imaging
  • Meterological data

RAPTOR

Critical infrastructure protection

RAPTOR™ is a portable, 4-channel fluorometric assay system that can be used for high-sensitivity monitoring of biological agents, toxins, explosives, and chemical contaminants. It can automatically perform a user-defined, multi-step, assay protocol while simultaneously tracking fluorescently-tagged chemical reactions occurring on the surface of each of the system’s four disposable optical waveguide sensors. Assays typically take between 10 to 20 minutes and the results are displayed on the LCD for each of the four waveguides.

RAPTOR uses a disposable plastic coupon containing four injection-molded optical waveguides. These wave-guides are functionalized with the desired chemistry and inserted into the coupon. They are then simultaneously interrogated using 635 nm light while monitoring the return fluorescent signal. Windows-based software allows the user to graphically monitor data recovery while an assay is running.

SASS 2300

SASS 2300 Wet Air SamplerThe SASS 2300 is a highly-efficient, portable multi-stage wetted-wall cyclone sampler that extracts particulates and water-soluble chemical vapors from air and transfers them to a liquid phase for later detection and analysis. This user-friendly sampler has been field-tested and used at a number of facilities including subway systems, public health facilities, nuclear power plants, corporate mail rooms and poultry ranches. It has been proven to possess excellent collection properties.

The SASS 2300 is the only wet-type air sampler shown to efficiently collect virus-sized particles, and has been successfully used to detect the airborne viral pathogens that cause exotic Newcastle disease and hoof-and-mouth disease, as well as some strains of avian flu virus. Furthermore, it was the only portable sampler technology to receive US Department of Homeland Security Certification under the US Safety Act of 2002.
